Genius Ideas & Classic Components – USE Light Mount
Written: June 4, 2012Genius Ideas & Classic Components
Something I want to try as another regular feature on BikeTart.cc is a bit of a celebration of some of the best bike ideas of recent times and some of the most classic components. If you have any you’d like to see please send them in via the ‘Submission’ link.
I’m going to start this off with a slightly leftfield choice – the new USE Exposure mount for their ‘Flare’ rear light…
Yup, it’s an odd choice for sure, but bear with me!
The original Flare mount was hardly a bad one – a neat design which sat the light just at the right angle when attached to your seatpost, made from a plastic which didn’t scratch, held on with the same rubber band design shown above making it easy enough to fit whilst giving a strong enough hold to stay in place. This new one though is just that little bit better.

The design of this one is such that the light sits right up under your saddle. Of course from a performance perspective this has absolutely zero bearing. Visually though, it tucks the light neatly away up into the saddle cavity, almost completely out of sight.
I’ve even gone one step further with mine and put the mount on top of the rails, wrapping two of the black Garmin mount rubber bands over it in place of the red Exposure one to disguise it that little bit more – so much so that before I got used to it I wondered where my light had gone because I couldn’t see it!
Of course if you use a saddle bag then it’s next to useless, but c’est la vie…

Genius – I’ve got the original and it’s pretty good, but as you say this is a really neat idea.
