Genius Ideas & Classic Components
As beautiful as they were useless…
Campag’s Delta brake is seemingly one of the most sought after retro components on the market, going for outrageous sums of money on eBay and being snapped up from ‘For Sale’ ads on internet forums almost as soon as they’ve been posted. Quite remarkable, given how notoriously bad they are at actually braking!
Regardless, they are probably one of the most beautiful of bike components, and I’m frankly amazed that the design hasn’t been replicated and improved upon to make it work… or perhaps that’s just not possible. Look carefully though and there are carbon versions to be had out there, although I’m not certain whether those are genuine Campag products or just aftermarket cover moldings.
If I were building something classic, or even a fixie, it’s probably the first component I’d try and source.
Useless? Who cares.
